Safety is the highest priority.
Ride your own ride. We ride to the slowest rider.
Newer riders and new to group riding, ride behind the Lead. 3 wheelers to ride in front of Sweep.
Stay in your car tire track unless an obstacle is in your way and then move towards the middle of the lane or to the right of the object if there is room. Do not go in front of another bike.
Always keep both hands on the handlebars except when passing hand signals back. Use your Left hand Only to pass signals back. Point out obstacles in the road with your left hand or either foot when you come to the obstacles.
While moving or at stop lights or stop signs, Do not:
Take pictures.
Get off your bike.
Remove any clothing, helmet or put on any clothing.
Wait until a gas or lunch stop.
Changing lanes in Staggered formation.
The Lead will use a hand signal and turn signals when preparing to change lanes.
Moving to the Right; the bikes on the right side will move over first and the bikes on the left side will follow.
Moving to the Left; the Lead will use a hand signal and turn signal and will initial the move followed be the bikes on the left side and then the bikes on the right side.
Always Look and use your Turn Signals.
Do not cross in front of the bike behind you.
Do not follow what the Sweep does. Only follow directions from the Lead.
Allow cars in. Stay in lane for a while. Cars usually will move out of our lane.
Hand Signals with Left hand Only.
- 1 finger, single file.
- 2 fingers, staggered.
- Right Turn, upper arm horizontal and forearm vertical.
- Left Turn, entire arm horizontal.
- Slowing, entire arm straight out moving up and down.
- Stopping/Hold, upper arm horizontal with the forearm pointing down.
- Pointing over helmet, bicycles / pedestrians / parked vehicle that are to our right.
- Faster Bikes from Behind. (1 finger & horizontal waving forward and back) All Move to right tire track to let them pass
- Tap Out, pat head & point to the right to pull over to the shoulder. Do This Numerous Times.
Staggered Formation. Rule of thumb, 2 second behind person directly in front of you and 1 second from person to right or left of you. Try to maintain the same distance during the ride.
Fill in gaps when riding staggered, moving straight forward if safe or at next stop signs or stop lights. Do not cross in front of another bike.
If group gets separated a Mid will come up and lead until the group rejoins.
Do not go through red lights.
Roll through stop signs together only if safe.
Cornering:
Do not get close to the center line because of oncoming traffic could cross it.
Do not look at the person in front of you because you may will follow them if they go off the road or cross the centerline.
Look at the road ahead.
Do not ride close to the edge of road.
We do not turn right on red lights.
At stops do not start going until the bike that was in front of you to the right or left starts moving.
At stop lights and stop signs double up even if we were single file.
Line up when leaving gas and lunch stops in the same order as when we first left.
We do not split lanes.
If leaving the ride early let a Road Officer know at a gas stops or at lunch.
Only ride with us if your tires are in good condition and your bike in good working order.
Only our Road Officers are allowed on Sena Mesh Channel 6.
Anyone with Medical issues let one of the Road Officers know.
